FEBRUARY 9, 1917 – OCTOBER 6, 2010
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Elinore Elizabeth Weber aged 93 years at Seven Oaks Hospital on October 6th.
She leaves to mourn her sons Bob and Bill, daughter-in-laws Norma and Karen and grandchildren Steven, Larissa and David. Elinore was predeceased by her loving husband John in 2007.
Elinore began her life in Brockville, Ontario where her parents Elmer and Mildred Moore doted on their only child. In her adolescence, Elinore and family moved to Winnipeg, where she later attended the University of Manitoba receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics in 1939. While at University, Elinore joined the Phi Beta Kappa Sorority and made friends that would last a lifetime.
Following her graduation, Elinore held jobs as a nutritionist with Crescent Creamery and as a columnist with the Winnipeg Tribune. During the war, Elinore joined W.A.C. of the R.C.A.F. and was stationed in Trenton, Ontario. There is met John, an R.C.A.F. pilot and the love of her life, marrying him in 1943. Following the war, Elinore and John returned to Winnipeg where they welcomed their first son Bill, and their second son Bob into the family. As the boys grew, summers were spent on the beach at Sandy Hook and Gimli where the summer sun saw the family grow to maturity. Elinore enjoyed golfing at the Wildewood club and her weekly bridge club but she spent much of her life investing her time in her family, friends and home life. When her boys married, she cheerfully invited her new daughters-in-law Norma and Karen into her life. She was equally a proud Grandmother to her three grandchildren Steven, Larissa and David. As a grandmother, she was tolerant, supportive, caring and intuitive reinforcing in them the qualities that she so cherished in her life. She always remembered significant occasions and always thought of others before herself. Her memory remains strong in our hearts and minds as we bid her farewell on this, her final journey.
We offer many thanks to Dr. Sharif, Dr. Patel and the nursing staff at Seven Oaks Hospital; and special thanks to the We Care Personnel who made Elinore’s last days as comfortable as possible.
A memorial service will be held at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road on Thursday, October 14th at 11:00 am with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation could be made in Elinore’s name to Winnipeg Harvest.
