Eleanor Irene Jaeger

September 1st, Eleanor Jaeger passed away peacefully at the age of 84, surrounded by her loving family.

She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Helmut Jaeger, her two loving daughters Joanne Jaeger (David Bryce) and Karen Jaeger (David George) and four grandchildren Quinn and Hannah Whitlaw and Kyle and Nolan George, and her dear sister Doreen Mork (Kathy Lindsay). She was predeceased by her parents Michael and Erna Mork.

Eleanor was born in Winnipeg and raised in River Heights. She attended Kelvin High School where she played for the basketball and volleyball teams and was an excellent student. She studied Home Economics at the University of Manitoba.

After working in a business office, she married Helmut (Hal) Jaeger with whom she would build a wonderful life and family for the next 62 years. In 1960 they started their married life in Edmonton where Helmut’s job had moved them, and where their two daughters were born. Eleanor would also become part of the winning team of the City Curling Championships. Then off to Toronto for another adventure. In Toronto many great memories and friends were made, and finally a move back to Winnipeg in 1972.

All this time she was a supportive partner and young mother and created a loving home for her two girls. Eleanor loved being a homemaker and was a passionate volunteer and chairperson for many organizations including CancerCare Foundation, Junior League, PEO, Winnipeg Foundation and the United Way to name a few. She enjoyed sports at the Winter Club, had many close friends and an active social life. She was also a long- time supporter of the Manitoba Theatre Centre and the Winnipeg Symphony.

Eleanor and Hal loved to travel and had the opportunity to see much of the world. A special treat was her annual November trip to Hawaii with her mother and sister. However, despite all travel, her favourite place was her cottage at Victoria Beach where many wonderful family memories and good times were experienced. Mom loved birdwatching, was a Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble champ, and would never miss the incredible sunsets.

Eventually she slowed down with the onset of Parkinson’s disease, and then dementia, which drastically changed her life. The family would like to thank those who have extended support, and to Dr. Lamba and the nurses in GB3 at HSC, as well as the Palliative Care Team for their kindness and compassion.

To the wonderful, loving and dedicated home care ladies (too many to name, but you know who you are) who attended to Eleanor’s every need, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Eleanor on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 2:00pm at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
