“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” … these were the words that guided the life of beloved mother, grandmother and wife, Edith May McGeown. Mom was predeceased by her husband, my father, Thomas Gordon McGeown and her parents, Gwendolyn and George Baldock. She is survived by daughter Ardith (Randy) Plant, grandsons Gordon (Brittany), Donald and Richard.
As an avid gardener, mom enjoyed spending time in her yard, tending and nurturing her flowers and vegetable garden, especially loving the birds and butterflies. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends over a pot of tea shared in her kitchen.
Mom adored her grandsons, or “the boys” as she affectionately referred to them. Mom was always there for her family and was the boy’s number one fan at their hockey, soccer, and basketball games. She also attended all their musical performances and school events. Her legacy to her family is her great passions of singing, music, reading and always being present to lend a helping hand.
A lifetime resident of West Kildonan, mom attended Seven Oaks and Centennial Schools. She was a bookkeeper for the Manitoba Telephone System and later returned to work as a Sales Associate with Naturalizer Shoes. Upon retirement, mom volunteered at Seven Oaks Hospital for nearly 20 years.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, followed by a reception. A private family interment will occur at Historic Kildonan Church Cemetery in Winnipeg.
Donations may be made in mom’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
