It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our son Dana Thomson Daniel Doszpod, who passed away on September 8, 2022, at the age of 30 years old.

He will be sadly missed by his son, Dominic, parents Daniel and Naomi Kathryn, sister Jade, brother-in-law Matthew, nephews Landen and Levi, and also by aunts, uncles, cousins and second cousins.

Dana was born and raised in Winnipeg, where he attended Rockwood Elementary School, and Grant Park High School. After graduating from high school, he went on to take Autobody Painting at Red River College. After finishing at Red River College, Dana worked in the autobody painting industry at a number of locations and became quite a fixture in that industry, beginning with his first position at JMax where he apprenticed under Peter Signoreli, for whom he had great admiration. This is where his passion for his vocation was first ignited. He was well known for his meticulous and exceptional work and work ethic. He eventually came to run his own autobody painting business for a couple of years, Rock Collision and Bodyworks, of which he was very proud. Following that, he continued to work for various autobody businesses throughout the city. We marvel at all he was able to accomplish, despite his personal struggles.

Dana was passionate about cars and motorcycles. He bought his first car, a 1984 Buick Regal, when he was 15. He worked at Little Caesars Pizza after school and saved all his money to buy that car. He then worked up to buy his prized 1993 Mustang. He loved that car and spent many evenings tinkering on it or taking it out for a cruise. He also loved the speed and adrenaline of racing Motocross. He had Honda and Suzuki Motocross bikes that he rode and maintained himself, always looking to make improvements on them.

Dana’s interests were varied. He loved reading books, listening to music, playing guitar, watching movies, cooking, and working out. He loved fishing and we had many great times fishing off the dock at Hnausa. He was extremely knowledgeable on a wide range of subjects and was always researching topics including, current, historical and political events, and was always ready to debate the issues. And debate he did. We fondly remember all the, sometimes boisterous, after dinner debates, with Dana usually coming out on top. Dana had a great love of cats. Both his cats, Hoss and Lenny, adored Dana and claimed him immediately as their own. Dominic’s cat, Kingston, also took a quick warming to Dana and still watches the side door in anticipation of the great cat boxing match that would begin almost immediately when Dana appeared at the door.

When Dana was younger, he was a regular at Crescentwood Community Centre. He was a member of the boxing club, played hockey with his buddies or just went there to hang out. He also spent many great summers at Gimli, on the beach and zooming around town on his bike with his lake friends. He loved family and family time more than anything. He would take time after school and have afternoon tea and chat with his grams. He always loved when we went to Grandma Ella and Grandpa Imre’s place for our special family dinners.

Dana was an out-going, gregarious person who made friends and acquaintances easily. He was quick-witted and had a great and quirky sense of humour. Always ready to throw out a joke or funny comment or observation. He made us all laugh, and we will miss that dearly. Dana had a kind and gentle soul. He always looked for the positive in people. We learned from him as much as he learned from us. He touched the hearts of the many people he encountered with his sincerity, respectfulness and his zest for life, and asked for very little in return. He was a proud father and loved his Dominic dearly.

We miss you Dana, your presence, your laugh, your energy, your radiant smile. We were blessed the day you were born, and every day since. We pray now that you will bless heaven.

Goodbye son, we love you.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, September 23 at 2:00pm at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A reception will be held following the service in the Fort Garry Reception Centre
