Brenda Snider died on April 18, 2024. She is survived by her brother Donald (Helen), Brockville, Ontario and nephews Gregory, Sidney By The Sea, BC and David, Vancouver, BC.
Brenda was born in London, Ontario and was raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario and Thunder Bay, Ontario where she completed high school.
She went to Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario and earned an undergraduate degree in nursing. Following graduation in 1965, she taught nursing in the School of Nursing, the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, and the School of Nursing, Toronto General Hospital. In 1972, she returned to Queen’s and obtained an undergraduate degree in biology and a Master in Business Administration. She held the position of Vice-President, Nursing, Humber Memorial General Hospital, Toronto, and was subsequently appointed Vice-President, Nursing, Kingston General Hospital, Kingston, Ontario. In 1985, she moved to Winnipeg to accept the position of Senior Vice-President, Nursing Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba, as well as a joint appointment to the School of Nursing, University of Manitoba. She retired in 2003, after working ten years as a Senior Policy Analyst, Manitoba Health. During her career, she served on numerous local, provincial and federal/provincial/territorial committees related to health delivery, post-secondary education and nursing.
Brenda inherited a keen interest in politics and current affairs from her mother. Her hobbies included: stained glass projects, photography, wine-making, star-gazing, and gardening. She enjoyed “doing lunch” with friends, Bocce, ballet, opera, listening to classical music, and reading, especially books about history, politics and science.
As per Brenda’s request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
