Jan Meeks Bley, beloved wife, mother, and friend to many passed away December 24, 2021. She was born on April 2, 1940, to Mr. and Mrs. John (Ila) Meeks in Alcorn County, MS and grew up in Trumann, AK. She is survived by her husband Jerold Bley, son Bruce (Vickie) Bley, and sister Beth (Donald) Presley. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Kirby Meeks.
After graduating from Trumann High School, Jan attended Business College in Memphis, TN where she graduated as a bookkeeper. She met Jerold while both worked for Melton Brothers John Deere Dealership in Trumann. Together they would call many places home including Sherwood, AR, Lebanon, Germantown, and Normandy TN, as well as Snellville and Winder, GA.
Jan dedicated several years to raising Bruce and being a homemaker. She became an avid tennis player, developed a passion for creating art and quilting. Jan returned to her career and worked for Home Depot once Bruce began college. An adventurer, Jan enjoyed traveling. She and Jerold visited forty-seven of the fifty states and Canada. They traveled abroad to Italy, France, Germany, and many other European countries. While she loved to travel, she had a passion for sharing her Christian Faith. Jan participated and became a leader for several Bible study groups. Her laughter will be missed but her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. It is with the grace of her faith that comfort is found in the knowledge she is reunited with loved ones and dancing with her brother Kirby. We rejoice in knowing that in God’s time we will embrace her again.
A visitation for family and friends will be in Smith Memory Chapel on Sunday, January 2, 2022 between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Donations in memory of Jan Bley may be made to the W.Y. Smith Sunday School Class at Winder First United Methodist Church.
Smith Funeral Home, Winder, has charge of arrangements.
