Donald Jackson Rutledge, Sr., age 83, of Winder, Georgia passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024. He was born in Atlanta on March 1, 1941, to the late James Henry Jackson and Susan Inez Rutledge. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and went on to serve his local community as a Police Officer in Atlanta and later retired from the City of Winder Police. Donald was also known for his work sharpening scissors and blades for dog groomers.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Hilga Rutledge; brother, Jon Rutledge; and sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Steve Campbell. He is survived by his wife, Lana Rutledge; son, Donald Rutledge, Jr.; daughter, Deborah (Kip) Hall; grandchildren: Taylor Rutledge, Courtney (Jarrett) Boswell, Ian (Megan) Mann; great-grandchild, Owen Mann; sister, BeBe (Larry) Johns; and sister-in-law, Gina Rutledge.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Smith Funeral Home, 755 Atlanta Hwy SE, Winder, Georgia. Following the visitation will be a Graveside Service at North Atlanta Memorial Park, 5188 Winters Chapel Road, Dunwoody, Georgia 30360. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations, in memory of Donald, be made to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
