Bessie Mae Carter

Bessie Mae Carter, 88, of Lenoir City, TN, formerly of Winder, passed from this life on Saturday, March 16, 2024. Born in Arcadia, DeSoto County, FL, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Stephen Mihlfeld and Mary Edna Mihlfeld of Climax, GA. She was a member of Union Baptist Church in Winder, GA and retired from First Federal Savings and Loan of Winder.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Thomas Dewitt Carter; her twin brother, Rev. Beryl R Mihlfeld; half-brothers: Sid, Roy, and John Mihlfeld; and half sister, Julia Bradley. Survivors are her daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Chuck Moore of Lenoir City, TN, Donna and Marshall DeBord of Pikeville, TN, Denise and Ralf Nicolai of Deltona, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Steven D. and Carol Carter of Winder, GA; grandchildren: Charlotte Moore (Bryce) Wylie, Cheryl Moore (Jonathan) Harrell, Brandon (Samantha) Nicolai, Chelsea Nicolai, Marlana DeBord (Travis) Smith, and Celena Hooper (Garin) Taylor; great grandchildren: Josiah, Malachi, Samuel, Abram, and Eden Harrell, Adyson and Emery Wylie, Audrey Smith, Carter and Cameron Nicolai, and Garrett and Mila Taylor; sister, Gladys South; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be on Friday, March 22nd at 10:00 am in Smith Memory Chapel with Rev. Rusty Newman and daughter Deborah Moore officiating. Interment will be in Barrow Memorial Garden.
