Jim Berry “JB” Worrell, 88, of Wilson passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 13, 2021. A graveside funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2021, in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson, NC.
JB began his career with Williamson Trucking Company, worked for Barnes Trucking Company, and retired with Estes Trucking Company. Trucking was his passion until he met and married the love of his life, Christine Williams Worrell. From that point on, Christine became his passion for life. Being born on Labor Day had a significance on JB’s life as he was a natural-born hard worker. He would chuckle saying that he had been born on Labor Day and had been working hard ever since. Being driven as a hard worker made JB realize that retirement wasn’t working too well, so he sought out a part-time job. Little did he know that when he walked in the doors of Bissette Realty that he would become not only an employee, but he would also become a part of their family. To say that JB had a heart of gold was an understatement and to know him was to love him. Once you met him, there was an instant bond. JB loved the Lord foremost and loved his family and friends dearly with his heart of gold.
Surviving are his daughters, Debbie Blackburn (Hugh) and Teresa Penninger, all of Supply, and Carolyn Lamm (George) and Kay Brannan, all of Wilson; a son, George Clayton Worrell, Jr. (Doreen) of Snow Hill; two sisters, Selma Whitley (Ernest) of Wilson and Eleanor Gray of Holden Beach; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Williams Worrell; his parents Carl and Josephine Worrell; two sons-in-law, Joseph Brannan and Tim Penninger; two grandsons, Christopher Bradley Worrell and Brennan Shane Lamm; one brother-in-law, Glen Couch.
The Worrell family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Doctors and staff at Wilson Medical Center; Dr. Doug Brewer and staff; Dr. Paul Perez-Navarro and staff; The Sunshine Agency and all of JB’s special sitters; Thomas Drugs and staff; Johnson, Anne and Madison Bissette; First Wilson Properties and staff. The family would like to give a special thanks to George and Carolyn Lamm for making sure that he was taken care of every day.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
