Lottie Kathryn Mintz Howard, 90, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away on October 22, 2021. She was born in Grissettown, NC, on March 14, 1931, to James Roland and Edna Hewett Mintz. James C. (Jimmy) Howard survives her as her husband for 72 years.
Lottie’s professional career was capped by a decade of successful work as a real estate agent in northern Virginia. She was a top seller with many devoted clients and cherished colleagues.
But her true vocation for her last 39 years was that of grandmother and great grandmother. The grands dubbed her “Grandsugar”, a name she passionately embraced for life. Her beloved ones reached from Pacific Northwest to the Baltic Shores and she traveled the world with Jimmy until her final years to spend time with them. https://admin.mem.com/sso/newde/10422980#keepsake/compassioncard
Lottie’s avocations included reading, cooking, gardening and “political expression”. Few entered her home without an invite to her table. Fewer still ever doubted her Democratic leanings.
In addition to Jimmy, she is survived by her sister, E.B. Milliken (Alton), her children, Carlton (Lee), Keith (Erja) and Susan; her grandchildren, Gerry, Gideon (Hanna), Ilona (Toni), Oona, (Jussi), Kathryn (Daphne), Bradley (Sydney) and Michelle; and great-grandchildren Ashley, Anthony, Anton, Tara, Nikke and newborn Johannes. Her step-grandson Mark preceded her in death, survived by his children, Kayleigh, Mark, Jr., Jeremiah and Jasmine.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on November 12, 2021, with visitation one hour prior at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Boulevard, Wilmington, NC. A luncheon will immediately follow at Pine Valley United Methodist Church, 3788 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC. Burial will follow at Mintz Cemetery in Shallotte at a later date.
