Julie Annette Ingram Lackey

Julie Annette Ingram Lackey, 57, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020. Julie was born in Salisbury, North Carolina to Bernard Furman Ingram and Julia Lowe Ingram. At a young age, her family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, which is the city she considered to be her home.

She attended Hoggard High School where she was highly involved in many organizations, but some of her fondest memories were of being on the Vikettes dance team and piano accompanist for the Voyagers. Julie was blessed with the gift of music. She was a talented pianist and her family always loved when she would play for them throughout her life. She was also an avid cook and baker from a young age and there wasn’t a single dish she couldn’t make.

Julie attended University of North Carolina Wilmington where she received her B.A. in Biology and was soon after called upon to become a nurse. She then returned to University of North Carolina Wilmington and obtained her B.S. in Nursing. After graduation Julie was immediately hired by Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina to work in their Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She worked at Duke Hospital for several years before returning to Wilmington, North Carolina. Julie continued to work as a NICU Nurse at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and enjoyed every day of her career.

She only stopped working when her first child, Lauren, was born. She loved being a nurse, but she loved being a mother more than anything. Her children, Lauren and Conner, were her world.

In her children’s eyes, she was perfect and she went above and beyond for them every day. They remember her best as a celebration extraordinaire and their biggest supporter. Julie passed down her love of animals, music, and the beach to them. Above all, she showed them how to live kindly and compassionately.

Julie was always asking what she could do for others and had the most generous spirit. No one was a stranger to her and she made everyone that she spoke to feel special and loved. Julie’s smile and laugh could light up a room and her warmth could make anyone feel at home.

Julie was her children’s and sister’s best friend and left such a deep imprint on their hearts. She will be forever loved and remembered by her daughter Lauren Lackey and fiancé Chris; son Conner Lackey; and sister Patricia (Marion) Wise.

Due to current restrictions, the family will hold private services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to a local animal rescue of your choice.
