John Wayne Hall (affectionately known by family and friends as Johnny or John Wayne) 62, passed away on August 2, 2015 in Raleigh, NC with his wife, Kathy and children Derek and Haley by his side. A Memorial Service will be held at Coble Ward-Smith, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC on Saturday, August 8 at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends following the service.
John was born to George Hall and Kathleen Wester on May 6, 1953 in Norfolk, Virginia.
On March 16, 1984, John married Kathy Morris in Raleigh, NC. They have two children, Derek Tyler and Haley Elizabeth, and one grandson, Declan John Hall.
John loved the ocean and fishing. Having lived in Nags Head, he and Kathy traveled there often to fish.
His love of music was known when you entered their home in Cary, NC. AC/DC and The Marshall Tucker Band being some of the music that were his favorites.
John adored baseball and basketball. His favorites being the Yankees, Redskins and NC State.
He was a Crane Operator for many years and was asked to work all over the southeast. He built the Raleigh-Durham Tower at RDU and the BB&T Building in Raleigh.
John was loved by all who knew him and even those that didn't. His laugh and smile infectious, he never met a stranger. A generous man with his love and time, he was the first to help all and anyone.
On November 19, 1991, he was in a catastrophic crane accident at Jordan Lake. He remained in a coma for 4 months and suffered a traumatic brain injury. In 1993, he went to live at Learning Services for TBI's in Durham, NC. There is where he thrived and loved all and that adoration was returned to him there.
In April of 2015 he was diagnosed with cancer. John understood his diagnosis and all that would occur. He never complained but continued to show his love to his family and staff. His sense of humor and smile was contagious. John's faith never wavered.
John is survived by 3 brothers, V.L, Robert and Harvey. He has one brother, Drewry, who is deceased. John loved when they visited. He has many nephews and nieces whom he adored.
His wife of 31 years, Kathy, and his children, Derek and Haley are forever grateful and honored for having this "larger than life" gentle, loving man as husband and father in their life.
His life on earth will forever be remembered.
