May 15, 1941 - February 24, 2022 has been welcomed with open arms. Even though our hearts are heavy from our loss we know that Heaven has gained a great and gentle man.
Jim was born in James Walker Memorial on May 15, 1941 to Charlie and Margaret Sykes.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Margaret Sykes and his brother, Charles Marion Sykes
Jim was the most loving husband, Father, Pop, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Air Force Chaplin
and Reverend.
Jim actually began his ministry quite young as a Sunday school teacher at Cape Fear Baptist Church. And throughout his life ministering in numerous nursing homes and community churches.
Prior to his retirement Jim established the Interstate Chapel Ministries. He delivered the Gospel here
As well as passing out Tracks at (too many to count) truck stops along the interstates. And he continued
this part of his journey here for twenty years. Jim was so strong Spiritually and physically.
He Loved God, Family and our Country. He was not afraid of hard work often working multiple jobs including farming and he gave to others before himself.
Jim is survived by his Loving Wife Nancy of 44 years; sister, Eileen (Chet) Langley; children: Suzanne Sykes, Donna Barnes (Kenny), Cecil Ray, Sheila and James D. Sykes; grandchildren: Brooke, Victoria, Cora, Kayla, Brin, Owen, Kenny and Josh; great grandchildren: Brandon, Kyel, Kyleigh, Amari, Kaylynn, King, Lindsey, Audrey, Weslie, Silas, Levi, Addalynn, Alyssa, Morgan, Brin J., and Jimmy.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You for the care and love that was given to Jim during his stay at Premier Living and Rehab Center by staff: Kimberly M, Cassandra B, Jalissa P, Pamela R,Jennifer L, Summer J, Jennifer and Ysheena.

Family will receive visitors anytime at Jim and Nancy’s home and also on Tuesday March 1, 2022 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, N.C. 28412.
Funeral Service to be held at Faith Baptist Church, 405 Shipyard Blvd Wilmington, N.C. on Wednesday March 2nd, 2022 at 2pm with Rev. Kenneth Barnes and Rev. Frank Hackworth officiating. with a visitation one hour before the service. Interment to follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409.
