Francis Arthur Metzgar, also known as Frank Metzgar, age 58, of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021. Due to chronic health issues, he ultimately succumbed to death from his injuries.
Frank was born in Freeport, New York on January 10, 1963, to Maryann and Francis Metzgar. He was educated in the New York Catholic and public school systems. Frank eventually graduated from Miller-Motte College with an associate's degree as a Medical Assistant and Billing and coding. Before his injury, Frank loved to play an active part in his community. He was a firefighter and a sheriff's deputy. He also worked as a corrections officer in New Hanover and Pender County. One thing Frank did pass along to his son was the love for sports. Frank and Steven would spend hours playing lacrosse and football together in the backyard, ultimately leading to his son following in his footsteps.
Frank married Vanessa Brady on May 2, 1992. The two were inseparable! They were blessed with one son: Steven Metzgar.
Frank was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, serving as a Fourth Degree Knight within the Knights of Columbus. Other hobbies included fishing, riding his motorcycle, truck driving, and spending quality time with his family.
Frank leaves behind his mother, Maryann; his wife, Vanessa Metzgar; His son, Steven Metzgar and wife Danielle Metzgar; his grandson, Xavier; and his siblings; Carol, Catherine, Maryann, Theresa, and Thomas. Frank also had many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Francis Metzgar.
Frank will be remembered as someone who was a fighter. Someone who never gave up. He was determined and strong-willed. He will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held on December 22, 2021, at 12 pm. There will be a visitation before the service from 11 to 12 and another visitation after the service until 3.
