Elbert Houston Walker, a beloved and dedicated family man, passed away on April 8, 2024, at the age of 100. Born on July 4, 1923, in Rocky Point, North Carolina, Elbert lived a rich life marked by service, love for his family, and a passion for the outdoors.
After retiring from Carolina Power and Light Company (now Duke Energy), where he had worked for 34 years as a lineman and later a Substation Operator First Class, Elbert enjoyed spending time in his garden and was well-known throughout the county for the quality and sweetness of his tomatoes, which he sold on the side.
In his free time, Elbert cherished going out on his boat with his family, relishing the moments spent fishing and enjoying nature. He is survived by his only child, Patsy Ann Bennett, and her husband, Mark Bennett. Elbert was also the proud grandfather of James Andrew Clements and Roy Alan Clements, great-grandfather to Christian Clements Leonard, Austin Clements, and Cayden Clements, and great-great-grandfather to Colby and Brady Leonard.
Elbert’s commitment to his work and his family, as well as his love for the outdoors, will be remembered by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and respect, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Coble Funeral Chapel, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, North Carolina. A Graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at 1:00pm at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, North Carolina.
