Doris Bernice Kramer

Mrs. Kramer was born in Hickory, N.C. and moved to Whiteville as a bride in 1950 where she lived until moving to an independent retirement home in Atlanta, Georgia in December, 2010.

Mrs. Kramer studied one year at UNC-Greensboro and graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College. She worked at the Pentagon during WWII before marrying Hyman Kramer, her husband of 59 years who passed away in 2008.

Mrs. Kramer worked for many years in the family business, Kramer’s Ladies Shop. She was active in the Aza-Mellia garden club, several bridge clubs and enjoyed gardening. She was also a founding member of Beth Israel Center and Beth Israel Sisterhood.

Mrs. Kramer had a great passion for life and a generosity of spirit. Her passion for friends was surpassed only by her love and pride for her family.

Survivors include son, Gary Kramer and wife Robin of Whiteville, son Michael Kramer and wife Terry of Whiteville, daughter Celia K. Chase of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Heidi K. Enzor, Jennifer K. Kulbersh, Leah Kramer, Josh Kramer and Drew Chase; her sister Esther Greene of Hickory, North Carolina sister-in-laws Elaine Zerden of Hickory, North Carolina,Mollie K. Leiken of Boca Raton, Florida and Jeanette K. Turner of Hollywood, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at B’nai Israel Cemetery, Sunday May 1 at 1:00 PM.

Directions are as follows: Driving in from 74/76 East, take 3rd Street to Market Street, turn right on Market Street, make a left on 18th Street, cross over Chestnut Street. The cemetery will be on the left side.

As per Jewish tradition, the family will receive guests at the Doris Kramer home at 203 Maple Street, Monday May 2 and Tuesday, May 3. 11:00 AM- 8:30 PM.

The family wishes to express gratitude for the wonderful care provided by Weinstein Hospice in Atlanta and her loving caretakers.
