David, Alice and Alton, I am sorry to hear of your father's passing. I remember him and your mother well when we lived in the neighborhood. And even after we moved, I would see your Dad driving around in his truck all the time. I just spent an hour looking through your beautiful tribute to him and your Mother. It's very clear how much they adored each other. But it's also obvious how much your children and grandchildren loved him, You have a beautiful family that's close and that's very special.  My thoughts and prayers are with you as you all get through this difficult time.  I'm sorry that I couldn't go Alton, Usually we see each other at these occasions along with our other Dupont friends, but I am thinking of all of you and wishing you peace. I remember every weekend being surrounded by the morals of a great man, a man who had kindness radiating from his half smirk every time he would give you a bit of advice. Our Poppy was my hero he taught me the humility to spare the squirrel eating my Gigi's strawberries and that drive every morning we caught one the conversations, the peach milkshakes, the yodeling, and the smile all of these things are with me. Poppy was and still is the best example of a man that I have ever had the privilege and honor of learning from. 

In celebration of you, Lil Bill

My great grandfather Poppi is and always will be a remarkable man. I’ll start by saying their was never a silent moment when you were in his presence. If he wasn’t telling you a story from his war days, or telling you about his job working At LP’s Gas, then he must have been talking about his family and his childhood. He always had a life lesson involved. I remember when I was little, maybe 8, and he asked me what I wanted to be, my response was a police officer or a firefighter! Boy, I bet he talked to me for two straight days about what that would be like and what I’d be giving back. If I had one wish it would be to hear one more story, get one more lecture or life lesson from him. One of my favorite things about Poppi would have to be his connection he could make with ANYONE. He was the wisest man Ive come to know, I believe he lived a long, successful, and meaningful life. Poppi is nothing short of one of the greatest men to ever walk this Earth. We are all so blessed beyond measure to have known him, and to have had his love. May he rest in paradise and always keep his arms around us. I love you Poppi! ❤️ -Lil Lauren

After hurricane Fran Mama, lil Bill, Poppy, Gigi and I were on the way to see the damage done to the Topsail area when we noticed something "different". Poppy couldn't hear any of us and what we were telling him, and so Lil Bill leaned over from between Gigi and Poppy and shouted in Poppy's ear "Poppy your on the wrong side of the road!!" and Poppy shouts back "I payed for this road I'll drive any damn where I want!" With my Poppy it was always good times and lots of wisdom.

A shining example of what a man should be. I am so grateful that I was blessed with the opportunity to know you and learn from you.  It truly was an honor. Love you poppy.

Dad was a great father and husband. Mom and he set a good example for how the family thing should work. He was a hard worker and probably the smartest man I ever knew. May you rest in peace Dad. We will miss you.

My favorite "Pee Wee ism", is something I've shared with others many times  ( always giving him the credit } .
In talking with Pee Wee and discussion having children and being able to afford all that comes with them, he  said "whether you have one child or five, it takes the same amount of money. " Knowing him to be wise and frugal, I was stunned by his comment and asked , how can it be the same? In his typical Pee Wee style, he remarked: whether you have one or five, ----- it will take all you make! How true, his wisdom always amazed me and made me smile.  Pee Wee, your humor and wisdom, will certainly be missed.

Long live poppy, thank you for showing and teaching all of us so many things in life that I will carry on and hopefully teach and show my great great grandchildren as you did with me, thank you poppy for everything, I love you poppy.
