Andrew "Andy" Doran Abbott

Andy was born in Duluth, MN on April 26, 1941 the son of the late Doris Albertson Abbott and Aubrey Doran Abbott.

He served his country in the US Navy as a deep sea diver. He owned and operated a successful industrial welding and fabrication business A+E Co., Inc. until his retirement in 2006.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty years, Ellen Abbott; step-son, Jerre Norris; sisters: Doreen A. Huffman and Lauralee A. Shelby.

Our most beloved stepfather is survived by his stepson, Sam Norris of Wilmington, NC and stepdaughter, Joyce French and her husband Allen of Cary, NC; five grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren and several nieces and a nephew.

He underwent dialysis treatment three days a week for eight years and was in constant pain but kept a cheerful disposition to the end. Andy was a resident of Spring Arbor of Wilmington the last year of his life where he made many friends both residents and staff.

The family would also like to thank the Lower Cape Fear Lifecare of Wilmington for their wonderfully compassionate care.
