Johnny was born on July 30th, 1943, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to parents John Xavier Reto and Laura Delores Reto. In 1947, at the age of 4, he and his family moved to Los Angeles, where he grew up alongside his younger siblings, Ronald (Mick) Reto and Rosemary (Reto) Hough.
Johnny proudly served his country as a member of the Army, stationed in Germany during the early 1960s. After his honorable service, he returned home to begin a life dedicated to family, hard work, and his passion for all things mechanical.
For 47 years, Johnny shared a life with his wife, Martha Reto. Together, they raised two daughters: Karen Reto, who preceded him in death, and Jessica (Reto) Chavez, who carries on his legacy with her husband, Rodolfo Chavez, and their four children—Sirenia, Elijah, Jazlynn, and Damian. Johnny’s grandchildren brought him endless joy and were deeply cherished by their papi John as they called him.
Johnny worked as a big rig semi-truck driver, providing for his family and earning the admiration of those who knew him. Outside of work, he pursued his lifelong passion for modifying motorcycles and cars, transforming them into masterpieces of speed and style.
Johnny was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son-in-law, and brother-in-law. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family. His absence will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Thank you for everything, Johnny. We will love you forever.
