I just found out about Gene's passing today through an internet search to try to contact him after a long absence. I'm so sad to find out that Gene passed away earlier this year. 

When Gene started at CNA Insurance in 2000 he immediately befriended me and we soon discovered that we both had an interest in photography and the arts in general. In fact he was the first person to befreind me at CNA after working there for 15 years previously. He was really kind and compassionate. I only wish I was a better friend to him, as I made a mistake but he forgave me for it. He will always remain in my heart as a friend. Thanks Gene for befriending me when no one else would.

To Gene's family, please accept my late condolences and I hope you are doing ok.

We were so saddened to learn about our dear friend Gene's passing. It was such a joy to have him in our little group of aspiring actors. I enjoyed watching his acting method. He was a calm soul, thoughtful of others, generous with his compliments and often had a slight smile when he spoke to someone. I knew when Gene  introduced me to you, Eileen, that you were the one - not just because you were talented, tall and beautiful, but because you were a deep, intelligent, and strong woman - qualities which no doubt were a source of comfort to Gene during his fight with his illness. I'm so glad you and the boys have each other - I know Gene loved you all very much.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I found out a few weeks ago about Gene's passing.  I met Gene at time when I was going through my own life transition.  Of course, Gene became my guide and mentor and friend despite the fact he was one with cancer and I just was getting a divorce. Gene was a beautiful man and one of the most loving, caring and just amazing people I have ever met. I still miss him even though we only saw each other occasionally. I remember the day we spoke about the house for rent. You were the only person that would accept my dog. You were a very caring person and you will be missed. I couldn't have asked for a more understanding landlord and friend. It was shocking to hear you are no longer with us. Rest easy my brother, for the pain is no more. Rest In Peace always.

We are saddened to hear the news about our dear friend, Gene.   So many memories of Lake Geneva family weekends and grown up dinners out with Gene & Eileen.  Also great memories at the pool, watching the kids play and grow and of the two dads riding their motorcycles while the two moms  followed in the mini van with the kids. :) ..it was too soon, always in our hearts. We are deeply saddened and very sorry for your loss. We have so many fond memories of all the fun times we spent together over the years, at our home(s), at your home(s) and many other places (this photo was taken at Ravinia, where we saw Sting, on June 7, 2013). Paulina’s memories of Gene (Zhenya, as he was known then) go all the way back to early childhood, of playing together and creating untold mischief during holidays and other family gatherings in Moscow. Decades later, it was always a delight to see our own children playing together with Robert and Liam. Gene had a wonderful spirit, a great sense of humor and a zest for adventure. His passion for the Chicago Blackhawks, Ducati motorcycles and, most of all, his family were always on display. We still have an unopened bottle of Scotch whiskey that Gene brought us a few years ago. We will open it this weekend and drink a toast to his memory. Our love and best wishes to all of you. There are no words to express how sorry I am for your loss. 
Gene was one of the kindest, most soft spoken and sweetest people I have ever met. He had such a calmness about him. A calmness that was contagious and made you feel like everything was going to be alright.  And because his spirit lives on in in all of you I know everything will be alright.
He loved you boys so much. He always lit up when he talked about you. 
Eileen , he was smitten with you from the very beginning. I remember thinking when you first introduced us. There is no way you are getting away from this guy. Even with that Steve Segal ponytail.
