Geraldine D. Kennedy

Geraldine D. Kennedy went to be with her Lord on February 4, 2023. Jerry was born in Buffalo, February 16th, 1932, to Dr. Joseph and Alice Drexelius. She was married for 49 years to the love of her life, Bernard J. Kennedy, who predeceased her in 2007. She is survived by her most loving and loyal children, Mary Kathleen (Jen) of Barrington, Rhode Island, Maureen of Snyder, NY, Tricia Killip (Doug) of Rye, NY, Colleen Insalaco (Sean) of Snyder, NY, and Joseph B. (Kristine) of Rye, NY. She was blessed with nine ”awesome” grandchildren; Dillon, Sam, Joe, Juliana, Mathew, Katherine, Adare, Brendan, and Quinn. Each of whom will miss her dearly and know how lucky they were to have the kindest and most loving Nana, who always greeted them with the biggest smile and warmest hug. She leaves behind two sisters Jeanne Donovan and Mary Jo Meyer. Jerry attended Nardin Academy and bragged about being a member of the second graduating class of Rosary Hill College (now Daemen College). She proudly worked at South Buffalo Mercy and The Veterans Administration Hospitals as a medical records librarian. She served as a former President of the Canisius High School Mother’s Club and Chairman of the Community Division of Catholic Charities. She was a member of the Bishops Council of the Laity, a generous supporter of Canisius High School, Catholic Charities, United Way of Western New York, Nativity Miguel School, and a fundraiser for the March of Dimes and Child Advocacy Center. She traveled extensively with her late husband throughout Africa, China, Ireland, Europe, and the United States. However, her greatest achievement was her selfless devotion to the care of her special needs daughter Maureen, whom she affectionately called “Mo”. Her hope after death was that her family and friends would honor her with their kindness, compassion, and tolerance and celebrate life with much laughter and love.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jerry’s honor to the Kennedy Family Scholarship Fund at Canisius High School, 1180 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo NY 14209. The Kennedy Family Scholarship awards aid to students who have shown exceptional academic potential, regardless of need or other adversity.
