Michael Ray Povey

Michael Ray Povey, 73, of Williamston Michigan, peacefully passed away at UM Health-Sparrow Home Hospice on April 19, 2024 after a short, unexpected illness. Michael was born in Lansing, Michigan on November 7, 1950 and is the loving son of the late Ray and Mary Povey and brother to his older sister, the late Suzanne Kay Kalczynski.

Michael was a loving brother to Suzanne for 69 years at the time of her passing. He is survived by beloved brother-in-law William Howard Kalczynski, Niece Tammy Lynn Gilroy & husband Brandon, Nephew Matthew William Kalczynski & wife Jennie, and his Grand-Niece Kelsey Laurel Kalczynski.

Michael grew up in Williamston living across the street from his grandparents’ home on Fulton Street. Because of such a large Galvin family Michael had many loving Aunts, Uncles and cousins. Williamston was his lifetime home, never far apart from his parents or sister.

Michael graduated from Williamston High School in 1969 and went on to attend Lansing Community College where he graduated with an Associated Degree in Architecture and later a certificate in Computer Technology. Most of his professional life centered around technology. He was looking forward to attending his 55th class reunion this summer.

Michael was an avid sports fan, with Michigan State University Spartans being his local favorite. In his earlier life he loved spending time his niece Tammy and nephew Matthew attending MSU Basketball and Hockey games. His love of sports ranged from collegiate sports, professional sports and NASCAR, and he shared that passion with his sister Suzanne. Michael also loved his golden retriever, Brandy. She was never forgotten long after she had passed away.

One thing that Michael loved was the summer family reunions. The family will be planning a “family reunion” in the summer to honor the life of Michael. The date and time will be announced at a later date.
