David Siebert Meerman passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2020, at the age of 90. Dave was born in Williamston, MI on March 1, 1930 and was the oldest of 2 children born to Siebert and Jean Meerman. He attended Williamston High School where he made lifelong friends while participating in many activities and sports, serving as President of the Varsity Club and a member of the Future Farmers of America. Upon graduation, Dave served his country during the Korean War, stationed on the USCGC Mackinaw.
He married Margery Lee Stachel from Lansing on November 29, 1952 and they moved to Jackson, MI to raise their family. Dave worked at Consumers Power Company for 38 years until 1988 when he retired with Marge and built a new home on family property in Gaylord, MI. They enjoyed living surrounded by nature for 23 years before returning to the Jackson area. Dave lived strong, active and proudly independent until his last days.
Dave is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Marge. He is survived by his children, Todd (Sheryl), Ryan (Debbie), Terri Watts (Terry); 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and his sister, Dorothy Clausen. Dave loved the outdoors; he loved his family, doing what it took to support them by working multiple jobs when needed and taking care of his wife in her final years. He will be remembered as the best Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Father-in-Law, Uncle and Friend – we have all been blessed to have him in our lives.
A service is not planned at this time due to COVID-19. His final resting place will be with his wife and parents at Summit Cemetery in Williamston, MI. Memorial Donations can be made to your local Food Bank to support families in need during these difficult times.
