Williamston
age 84, formerly of Haslett lost his battle with lung cancer on January 01, 2011. Born July 14, 1926 in Grand Rapids the son of Peter and Anna (Van Dyk) Bouterse. He graduated from South High School in Grand Rapids in 1944 and received a Bachelors and Master degree from Wayne State University. He proudly served in the Army in World War II as a Private First Class as one of the secretaries for General Macarthur in Japan. Retired from Michigan State University as a counselor after 33 years. He enjoyed classical music, gardening, reading, spending time with friends/family, and a loyal fan of Michigan State University sports. Ted married the love of his life Gloria Nelleen (Smith) on September 8, 1957 at the Alumni Memorial Chapel at Michigan State University. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Nelle Marie, brother Paul, and two sisters Adriana and Ruth Bouterse. Surviving is his wife of 53 years Gloria; son Shawn (Angela), daughter Mary Mroz (Tim), grandchild Grant Bouterse; and sisters Marjorie Sipple (twin) of Grand Rapids, and Lois Austin (Vern) of Mt. Pleasant, Sister-in-law Wanda Bouterse of Wyoming, MI. A memorial will take place at the Alumni Memorial Chapel on Michigan State University’s Campus Tuesday, January, 11 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested to donate a memorial contribution to the Leukemia Foundation, Donor Services, PO Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA. Arrangements are entrusted to Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Middle Street, Williamston, MI.
