William “Bill” Wayne Cassell, age 77, of Williamsburg (formerly of Poquoson), Virginia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Bill was born November 2, 1947, in Pulaski County and lived in Hillsville, Carroll County, VA. He is preceded in death by his father, Alonzo Cassell and mother, Mildred Cox Cassell.
He graduated from Emory & Henry University in 1970 and joined the Army Reserves. He went on to work as a sales representative for Parke-Davis and eventually Pfizer. He was in the Pfizer Hall of Fame.
Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Poquoson. He attended Emmaus Baptist Church for many years in Poquoson, where he was a substitute teacher for the Coleman Moore class. In more recent years, he attended Walnut Hills Baptist Church in Williamsburg.
He enjoyed flyfishing, traveling, investing, golf, vegetable gardening, and watching the Yankees play. He loved being with his family and catching up with cousins and friends from all around the country. Some of his most memorable moments included landing steelhead trout, entering his prize tomatoes in the state fair, and realizing golf’s greatest accomplishment of a hole in one (witnessed by his daughter, Meredith).
William is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dameron Cassell; daughters, Dr. Meredith Cassell Shrader (Charles) and April Cassell Andrews (Steven); stepsons, James Lewis (Cassie), Jeffrey Lewis (Christina), and Christopher Lewis (Kristy); grandchildren, Kaitlyn Shrader, Caroline Andrews, Keith Andrews, Ethan Shrader; step-grandchildren, Natalie and Logan Lewis, Joshua and Hannah Lewis, and Alexis Lewis Humbertson, Hailey, Ashley and Mason Caldwell; step-great-grandchildren, Stella and Josiah Humbertson Jr.; and beloved dog, Zoey.
A service for William will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Walnut Hills Baptist Church, 1014 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, Virginia. Following the service, there will be a burial at 1:30 PM at Williamsburg Memorial Park, 130 King William Drive, Williamsburg, Virginia.
