NANCY SUSAN DENOVAN MURRAY entered life everlasting on October 10, 2014. Facing two major health battles 63 years apart, she was victorious over polio, but lost to cancer. She leaves the loves of her life to cherish her memory, her husband of 48 years Douglas Rutherford Murray of Williamsburg, and their son David Rutherford Murray of New York City.
Nancy was born in Detroit and grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan. A graduate of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. Nancy received an A.B. in English and Speech and an M.A. in Radio and TV, working as a producer-director in public broadcasting in the early years of educational television.
Settling homes in five states, Nancy found her retirement avocations in decorating and do-it-yourself projects, in addition to church and community volunteer activities. Travel was a great indulgence, as the Murrays three shared many wonderful adventures that continued long after their son started collecting frequent flyer miles of his own. In the last decade, cruising became a favorite, with a final junket to the Hawaiian Islands in February 2014.
Services will be conducted by the Reverend Harold McKeithen at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Road, with a short reception to follow in Stevenson Hall. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the charity of your choice.
