Karin Woodrum

Karin Woodrum (55) of Toano, passed away on October 8, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. She passed peacefully in her hospital bed, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Karin is survived by her husband, Kevin; her children, Saskia and Christian; and her siblings, Ursula, Ulrich, Brigitte, Martin, and Friederike.

Karin was born Karin Buchholtz in Hong Kong, the fourth of six siblings. She spent her early years there and completed her high school education before moving to Kassel, Germany, to begin a bank apprenticeship. She continued her education in Rastatt and went on to become a Staff Manager and Consultant at GMBH in Frankfurt. Later, she relocated to Hanau, where she married and welcomed her two children.

After separating from her first husband, Karin met Kevin Woodrum in 2001. They moved to the United States together in 2003 and were married on October 7 of that same year. Karin devoted the following years to being a loving wife, a dedicated mother, and a cherished friend to many.

In 2010, she embarked on a new chapter as a German language teacher. Although she had never envisioned herself in this role, she quickly developed a passion for teaching and guiding young students. Her dedication and love for the profession left a lasting impact on many. Karin continued teaching until 2022, when she received her cancer diagnosis. Choosing to focus on her health, she retired from teaching and passed the role to her daughter.

Karin’s interests were diverse and included cooking, gardening, and, more recently, crocheting. She took great joy in sharing her hobbies with others, and her creativity and determination were evident in everything she pursued.

A celebration of her life will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home on Sunday, October 20, at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to the National Cancer Institute for research of the KRAS G12D mutation NSCLC. Donations can be made online at www.cancer.gov/about-nci/overview/contributing or you may send a check or money order payable to “The National Cancer Institute” and a letter indicating that the donation is to be used for NCI research.
