John Brooks Abbott Jr.

John Brooks Abbott, Jr., 78, went home to be with his Heavenly Father Wednesday, February 9, 2022 in Williamsburg, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby Abbott; brother, Gordon Abbott; and sister, Shirley Abbott. John was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. As a faithful servant of the Lord, he was a member of Grace Baptist Church where he volunteered as bookkeeper, financial secretary and Sunday School teacher for the Men’s Bible Class. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with the guys playing golf. He enjoyed traveling and playing new golf courses. John was “Coach” to many baseball/softball youth players. He retired in June 2001 as the Head of Air Weapons Planning from the Naval Weapons Station after 40 years of service. John is survived by his wife, Diane Abbott; sons, John Abbott, III (V. Ramsay) and Mark Abbott (Christine); daughter, Sherri Batten (Jerry); grandchildren, Skylar (Nick), Christian (Morgan), Mariah, Will and Katelyn; and great grandchildren, Adrian, Zayne and Olivia. The service will be held Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m, at Grace Baptist Church, 1013 Penniman Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23185. A reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in the memory of John B. Abbott, Jr., may be made to Grace Baptist Church of Williamsburg, (gracebcw.church).
