George Archer Marston, Jr., 94, a lifelong resident of James City County, died July 5, 2016 surrounded by family. He was born to George Archer Marston, Sr. and Alice Branch Marston on August 30, 1921. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Madsen Marston in 2013. He was also predeceased by his brother, Randolph Branch Marston of Dallas, his sister, Virginia Marston Batts of Macon, GA and half-sister, May Arundel of TX.
After graduating from Toano High School, he worked briefly at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock before returning home to work the family farm. He continued to farm until his retirement.
He and Dot had 4 children who survive him: Anna Keith Carter of Sandpoint, ID, Randi M. Peterson of Norfolk, Tina Marston Kurys and husband, Dan of Boston and George Archer Marston III and wife, Lisa of Williamsburg. He is also survived by grandchildren, Robert Philip Baumler, Jr, Matthew Scott Baumler, Geoffrey Archer Marston and Julia Lauren Kurys.
George helped establish several community banks and served on the boards of Old Colony Bank and Trust and Peninsula Trust Bank. He also served on the James City County Board of Agriculture and the James City County Board of Zoning Appeals.
A visitation will take place from 3 pm to 6 pm on Thursday, July 7 in the Woodhaven Manor Parlor in Woodhaven Hall, 5500 Williamsburg Landing Dr., Williamsburg, VA. A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 8 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 7479 Richmond Rd, Williamsburg, VA.
