Gail Leslie Sweeney (Hemphill), 68, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 14, 2023. She is preceded in death by her sons, Michael and Brian Sweeney and her granddaughter, Brielle.
She was born and raised in Springfield, Pennsylvania and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Williamsburg. Gail was devoted to her faith, and spent much of her time volunteering. She also had a love of history which she passed on to her children. Gail took pride in her family and was a wonderful mother, wife and grandmother. She will be remembered as the sweetest, kindest and most generous person they knew.
Gail is survived by her husband, Michael Sweeney; daughter, Katharine May (née Dustman); sons, Ian Sweeney (Kylie) and Gavin Sweeney (Jamie); stepchildren, Kelly Sweeney and Kevin Sweeney; grandchildren, Madison, Caden, Brynlee, Addison and Penelope; and siblings, Susan Zulker and Kim Hagenbach.
A visitation will be held Friday, April 21, 2023 from 11:00am to 12:30pm with the service to follow at 12:30pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 207 Newman Rd., Williamsburg, Virginia 23188. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
