Ed was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He and Evelyn met as teenagers and married in 1954. During Ed’s high school years, he earned a degree from the New York School of Printing and soon after graduation, served in the US Navy on the U.S.S Norfolk at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk Virginia. Upon discharge from the Navy, Ed earned an apprenticeship as a machinist working for the American Can Company. He then honed his skills and became a tool and die maker while working for the Efkay Tool and Die Corporation in New York. In 1962 he and his family moved from New York to Florida.
At the age of 37 Ed earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business at the University of South Florida, while working full time at Anheuser-Busch, Tampa, and raising his 4 children. In 1971, Ed was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor for the newly constructed Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Williamsburg and the family was delighted to make the move to Virginia. Ed became the Manager of Beer Packaging and Shipping before retiring from the brewery in 1987. Upon retirement, Ed and Evelyn enjoyed traveling the country and spent most winters in Key Largo, Florida, where they enjoyed boating, fishing and making friends. They also continued to travel throughout the US and abroad, and loved new adventures.
Ed enjoyed the game of golf regularly, however, singing was one of his passions. Ed was a long-time member of the Virginians Barbershop Chorus of Richmond. He loved traveling with Evelyn and his Virginians chorus family to events and competitions throughout the US and in Canada. Through the years Ed sang with many church choirs and quartets to include the Dukes of Gloucester.
Upon moving to Williamsburg Ed was eager to become involved in the community. He quickly became a member of the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge and Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg. The Kiwanis Club soon became his passion, where he proudly served on many committees. He served as Treasurer and President 1987/88 during his tenure. Ed received many awards and was most proud to have received the club’s highest award in 1996, the Korczowski-Fuller Award for community service.
Ed will be missed by many, and will be remembered as a loving family man, an involved community member, an avid golfer and a talented chorus singer.
