Charles (Charlie) Lawrence Ruhlin, 95, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 20, 2022. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Amelia Davidson Ruhlin; his parents, Frank and Kathleen Ruhlin; and his siblings, Bill Ruhlin and Kathleen DeWoody.
He was born on August 23, 1926 in St. Petersburg, FL and joined the Navy at the age of 17 during WWII. Charlie completed his education at the University of VA and Georgia Tech to become an aeronautical engineer at NASA in Hampton, VA. He married Amy in 1956 and they welcomed 3 children. Charlie enjoyed playing hand ball and tennis, loved spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren. He was loved by all and was always happy to tell a good story and laugh at his own jokes, spending vacations in Florida visiting relatives and enjoying the beach. Charlie was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and was blessed with great health for 95 years.
Charlie leaves behind 3 children, Wanda Daniels, Karl Ruhlin (Mary), and Greg Ruhlin (Lori); 9 grandchildren, April Green (Mike), Sarah Ruhlin, Rebecca Ruhlin, Rachel Ratz (Don), Amy Ruhlin, Michelle Ruhlin, Allison Ruhlin, Tiffany Powers (Doug), Clifton Daniels (Shannon); 6 great grandchildren, Reagan Green, Ryan Green, Riddick Green, Ivey Daniels, Ethan Daniels, and Connor Powers; and a brother, John Ruhlin.
A Catholic Mass will be held August 11, 2022 at 11 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Newport News, VA with a reception at the church to follow.
