Wendell was born during the dust bowl days of the Great Depression in Post, Texas on August 11, 1934, the son of Delbert C. and Ara Mae (Dunlap) Turner.
He worked as an Aircraft Inspector for Beech Aircraft for many years. After his retirement, he became an advocate for grandparents rights and served one term as Speaker of the Kansas Silver Haired Legislature, getting the Grandparents Rights Bill passed in 2012.
Preceding Wendell in death were his loving wife Ruby, step-son Earl Blocher, his parents and sisters Faye Weber and Doris Watts.
Surviving family members are his daughters Barbara Nickel and her husband Tom of Augusta, KS, Kathy Wheeler and her husband Terry of Wichita, KS, and one brother Ray Turner of Tulsa, OK. Also surviving are grandsons Steven Nickel, Jason Nickel, Brian Richwine, Casey Richwine, Barry Blocher, and Troy Blocher and his granddaughter Kristi Dezotell. Twelve great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren also survive.
