Sister Elizabeth Switlik

Switlik, Sr. Elizabeth Ann, 85, was the second of twelve children born to Clement Thomas Switlik, a jeweler/watchmaker and Margaret Agnes Currigan, a homemaker, in St. Louis, MO February 6, 1936 where the family resided at the time. She entered eternal life On January 25, 2022 in Marian Hall at the Wichita Center of the Congregation of St. Joseph in Wichita, Kansas. The family welcomed two more girls when they moved to Tulsa. A subsequent move was made to Parsons, Ks where all seven boys were born.

She began pre-school at St. Mary’s in Parsons, then attended St. Patrick’s School to complete her education through high school. Throughout high school she worked in the kitchen at Mercy Hospital. Then, along with two of her sisters, Catherine and Mary Margaret, she entered Mt. St. Mary Convent in September 1955 and received the habit on March 19, 1956. Her first profession was July 26, 1958 and final profession July 26, 1961. Sister’s ministries in the congregation were domestic in nature. She kept house, cooked and supplied a smiling face for Sisters working in small school missions in in the Diocese of Wichita. For a time she was assigned to the Childrens’ Home in El Dorado. Her last years in outside ministries was seven years in Oklahoma City where she was the housekeeping supervisor at St. Anne’s Home. In 1970 she moved back to the Wichita Center and stayed active with sewing, making baby blankets, working in the kitchen, and assisting other Sisters in their day to day lives. She says, “I have always tried to be content where I am and work for the Lord.” She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Clement. She is survived by sisters: Sister Mary Margaret, Sister Catherine, Theresa, Cecilia, brothers: John, Jim, Paul, Mark, Edward and Louis. Due to the continuing Covid pandemic, services for Sister Elizabeth Ann will be in private.
