She was born, August 10, 1943 to Earl and Emaline Maphet in Wichita, Kansas.
Sandra married the love of her life, Roger Atherton, March 18, 1962. They had 2 children, Randall and Christopher.
In December 1980, Sandra participated in a medical study for Insulin, making history of being the first person to have the human insulin shot.
Survived by husband of 61 years, Roger; sons: Randall Atherton and Christopher Atherton; granddaughter, Emilie Atherton; grandsons: James Atherton and Dawson Atherton; and sister, Marlene Muci and she is preceded in death by her parents and sisters: Mary Jane and Earlene.
A memorial service will be held Thursday May 18, 2023, 10 a.m. at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. Hwy 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209.
