Melvin "John" Murray

John passed away peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 3rd, 2023, at age 65. He was born and lived most of his life in Wichita.

John lived his life the way he wanted. He loved antique muscle cars, collecting poker chips, Wichita memorabilia, comics, magazines, coins, and guns. The Lakers were his favorite team. John loved his friends and family even though he seemed gruff and tough on the outside, he was the nicest guy you could know and had the biggest heart. John loved the holidays! The Fourth of July, Halloween, & Christmas were his favorites. He loved to launch the most amazing fireworks display you’ve ever seen and celebrate. He threw the most lively parties and celebrations.

John is preceded in death by his parents, James Ivan “J.I.” Murray and Mildred C. Murray (Kershen) and his brother Bradley E. Murray. He is survived by his sister Myra K Martin (Larry), his nephews Joe Martin (Lorie - Deceased), Jeff Martin (Virginia) and nieces Marsha Merrill (Todd) and Getana Ortiz (Balente) as well as great nieces and nephews and so many friends and loved ones.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 W. US-54 Highway, Wichita, Kansas. Graveside Inurnment Service will be held 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Resthaven Cemetery, 11800 W. US-54 Highway, Wichita, Kansas.

John didn't like flowers, but he cherished his dogs. We invite you to make a donation to the Kansas Humane Society in his memory in lieu of sending flowers.
