Kathleen P. Bateson

Kathleen P. Bateson, age 89, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021. Kathleen was born on a farm five miles north of Harper, Kansas, to Ira and Hazel (Ghere) Whitney on April 21, 1932.She went to a one-room school house named Hillsdale. She attended Harper High School, graduating in 1950. She worked several months at the Harper Advocate before going to Wichita to a new job with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. On October 28, 1956, she married Vernon Bateson. No children were born of this union. She worked for 38 years at the telephone company as a drafting clerk in the Records Department and in Planning. She retired May 28, 1989. Kathleen was a Luzier's Cosmetic Consultant for many years. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge and served as Past Noble Grand. She and her husband owned Hideaway Antique Shop in Colwich for 18 years. Their special interest in depression glass and elegant glass. She made many craft items as well. She loved gardening and flowers and camping with Vernon. At home they enjoyed their pet cats - - five over the years, the latest being Ms. Aster who lives up to her name. Kathleen cared for Vernon about ten years at home after two strokes. She is preceded by her husband Vernon; brothers Roy Whitney and Louis Whitney; and niece Jeanie Whitney. She is survived by nephews and nieces Larry Whitney, Jack (Diane) Whitney, Peggy Whitney, Phil Whitney, Steve Whitney, Jo Ann Weinsten; Floyd and Joy Bateson; nieces Connie Kelly and Cindy Bateson. Visitation will be held 12pm, Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Resthaven Mortuary. Funeral Service will be held 1pm, Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Resthaven Mortuary with burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Heart & Soul Hospice or Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, Inc..
