John L. Jones

John L. Jones, age 74, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 peacefully. John was born September 12, 1947, in Cherryvale, Kansas to Everett Jones and Mary Caroline Thompson-Jones. He had 3 siblings, 1 brother and 2 sisters. After graduating high school in Cherryvale he attended Wichita State University and graduated with his CPA. He enjoyed several years at Rent-A-Center and CTME as their financial advisor.

John entered the United States Army on January 29, 1970 and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.

Throughout his life, John was a sports enthusiast with baseball, softball, bowling and golf being some of his favorites. He was a big fan of WSU basketball and baseball. He also enjoyed the KC Royals and cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs. John's love of these sports was well known but nothing compared to his love of Bass fishing. There was never a more avid and devoted Bass fisherman. John entered many Bass tournaments where he won some and lost some. He was always trying to go for the "BIG ONE".

John is survived by his wife, Jan Jones; daughter Jennifer McKinney (Darren); step daughters Hilary Gardner (Dan) and Kelly Simmons; step son Rocky Simmons (Rose); 4 very loved grandchildren Caroline, Maggie, Jonas and Lola and 1 great grandson Orion; also he had a special place in his heart for his nieces Kristina, Jeannie (Mary-Jean) and Jennifer.

John is proceeded in death by his parents, Everett and Mary Jones; brother Eddie Jones; sisters Mary Burge and Cindy Shepard; and Nephews Eddie Jones and Andy Hooper.

He loved his family and was so proud of them.

A memorial service for John will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E 13Th St N, Wichita, Kansas 67206. Following the memorial service will be a burial at 3:00 PM at Fairview Cemetery, Cherryvale, KS.
