John lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was known for his kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family. John was born and raised in New London, Connecticut where his love for the east coast lighthouses and art evolved. John attended the University of Massachusetts where he obtained two engineering degrees and his doctorate degree. John was a tenured professor at Western Connecticut State University, in addition to teaching at many different universities around the United States. After retirement, he moved to Derby, Kansas to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.
May John's spirit continue to shine brightly, just like the lighthouses he admired. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his brother, Thomas G. Coleman; and his brother-in-law, William Jensen.
He is survived by: his daughter, Jennifer (Michael) Young; his sister, Kathleen Jensen; his brother, Brian (Jan) Coleman; his former wife, Jere Coleman; his grandchildren, Camryn, Matthew, and Ethan Young; along with his 4 nieces and 1 nephew.
Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held in Connecticut at a later date.
