Clemmie "C. W. " Brown, 91, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021 where he was blessed to be at home, surrounded by his family and he will be remembered as a man who loved God and dedicated is life to sharing scriptures and singing about his relationship with Jesus.
C. W. was born the son of Carl and Bessie Brown on April 20, 1930, in Billings, MO. C. W. and June (Campbell) Brown were united in marriage on June 23, 1949, in Springfield, MO. Together they celebrated 72 years of marriage.
After marriage, C. W. and June moved to Wichita, KS where he worked for Beech Aircraft for 19 years. During this time, C. W. was also in a gospel quartet called the Scotsmen. The Scotsmen hosted a weekly radio program, traveled and sang in churches for revivals, churche services, and special events.
In 1957, C. W. formed a family singing group with his wife, June and their children Becky, James, Kathy, Jerry and Judi. They sang in churches consistently for more than a decade and made two record albums. From that point forward, C. W. dedicated his time and efforts to spreading the gospel and singing for Jesus as a pastor or music minister for several churches.
C. W. was also the owner and operator of Brown’s Music from 1970 to 2020 and in 1980, C. W. and June founded Christian Family Ministries, where C. W. continued to serve and worship until his passing.
C. W. enjoyed playing guitar, singing, walking, swimming at the YMCA and writing brochures on the importance of being physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy. He also wrote pamphlets on the Holy Spirit and the Second Coming of Christ. In addition, he wrote and published several songs which are still being recorded by Praise and Worship Groups today. "Love Held Him to the Cross" is the song that has achieved the most recognition.
He was preceded in passing by his parents and siblings, his daughter, Kathryn June Brown, two grandchildren, Joshua Fleet and Sean Stuckey. Survivors include his loving wife, June Merle Brown of Wichita, his children: Rebecca Brown-Biethman of Sun City, SC, James Brown of Albuquerque, NM, Jerry Brown of Lee’s Summit, MO, Judi Brown-Fleet of Wichita, KS, 10 Grandchildren and 13 Great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Christian Family Ministries, 4502 S Seneca St, Wichita, KS 67217. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wichita. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Christian Family Ministries.
