Charles F. "Freddy" or to some "Charlie" Ormerod III, age 76, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on November 28, 1945 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, the son of the late Charles F. Jr. and Nelda Irene (Walker) Ormerod.
In 1963, Freddie graduated from both Hays and Wichita West High Schools, due to attending both his senior year. After graduation Freddy went to work building caskets at The Wichita Casket Company for 8 years, before he began his career as a plumber with Eaton Plumbing, eventually owning Charles F. Ormerod III Plumbing & Heating.
In 1965, he married Linda Lou (Eaton) in Wichita and to this union were born four children, daughters twins, Sharon Kay and Sheryl May Ormerod, a son Douglas Eugene Ormerod and daughter, Dawn Michelle Ormerod.
In 1971, he married Carol Louise (Samsel) in Wichita and to this union was born a son, Kevin Lee Ormerod.
Freddy was also a dedicated coach, coaching both basketball and baseball. He spent many years helping shape the young men of Wichita. From this adventure he made connections with young men that he loved dearly, "adopting" one Gene Butler to become part of the family and making him his "son".
Freddy was a member of the NRA and Northside Church of Christ. He also was a Hall of Fame inductee of both 81 Speedway and Darryl Starbirds Rod & Customs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin daughters; one son and a sister, Sherry Ormerod.
Survivors include his children, Dawn and husband, Shane McCallie of Wichita, Kevin and wife, Taunia Ormerod of Newton; brothers, Wallie Ormerod, Jim and wife, Bonnie Ormerod, Don Ormerod, Rick Ormerod; grandchildren, Misty King, Crystal King, Dustin and wife, Becky King, Jami and husband, Michael Heubach, MacKenzie Deere, D.J. Ormerod, Michael and wife, Dani Ormerod; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Bristol, Elijah, Ethan, Anita, Jaxson, Vada, Lawson, Addysyn, Blayze, Kaylin, Carson, Austin, Rhyann, Adelynn; his constant companion, his dog, Buster.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2022; Funeral Service 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, both at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel; Graveside Service to follow at Resthaven Cemetery, Garden of Gospels.
A memorial has been established with Union Rescue Mission, 2800 North Hillside Street, Wichita, Kansas 67219.
