Allen Dimick

Carl Allen Dimick, 93, died October 10, 2024, after experiencing the effects of bladder cancer for more than 18 months. His eagerness to carry on a conversation with anyone he met was far different than the shy Iowa farm boy he grew up as. That willingness to help with any project, lend a helping piece of advice, or exchange a bit of sarcasm, endeared him to those around him.

Allen was preceded in death by the love of his life, Melda, to whom he was happily married for 66 years, 6 months, 6 days, and 2 hours, and grand-dogs Hadley and Floyd. He is survived by his children: Sue (Dan) Boggs, Jeff Dimick, Carla (David) Walulik, and Bruce (Laury) Dimick; 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene Carstensen; sister-in-law, Fern Moreland; brother-in-law, Bob Barnett and a host of nieces and nephews, grand-dog Jack Jack, and a few strays along the way.

Allen’s focus in life was ensuring he and his family knew God. He lived the life of imitating the love of God, welcoming everyone he met. He was one of the longest serving members of the Westlink Church of Christ where he served as a deacon with the responsibility of building maintenance. He was also the “unofficial greeter” trying his best to remember the names of every visitor that came through the doors.

After serving in the U.S. Army on the front lines in Korea, he spent his professional life as a safety engineer, climbing in and out of boilers and other places that were potential hazards for the businesses his company insured. As he traveled extensively in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Oklahoma, he forged relationships that we will never fully understand. But at each stop, his professionalism and competency was clear, earning him respect among his clients and peers.

Allen credited his work ethic to his early years and his faith in Jesus to his bride, Melda. In his words, “If it weren’t for Melda, I would have been dead a long time ago.” His greatest thrill was being surrounded by his family. He was incredibly grateful that he got to spend time with all four of his children in his last month of life. Indeed, while he was blessed, he blessed each of us even more.

A visitation for Allen will be held Friday, October 18, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a funeral service Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM followed by a graveside service in the Garden of Gospels. All at Resthaven Mortuary and Gardens of Memory, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, KS 67209.
