July 12, 2024, Walter Clyde Splinter entered heaven’s gates with his loving family by his side. Walt was born October 28, 1941 in Freeport, Illinois, the oldest of 10 siblings to Clyde Frank Splinter and Ruth Marie Sedwick. Services will be on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 10am in the chapel of Hampton Vaughn Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.
A man of many talents, Walt was a hardworking, generous man that loved his family well. His constant stubborn streak of determination was present in everything he did, and showed to his last breath.
An exceptional welder, Walt was always willing to share his talents and could build anything he set his mind to. As long as there was coffee brewing, Walt never minded sharing his experiences with others and enjoyed his time greatly with his friends and family. Always willing to help someone out, Walt gave of himself often.
A member of the United States Air Force from 1958-1962, Walt then began his career working and spent time at McAllister Well Service, Fort Worth Piping Supply, and civil service at Sheppard Air Force Base, before retiring from the North Texas State Hospital.
Walt was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many many years and loved his church dearly. He was a loyal supporter of the church’s annual German Sausage Fundraiser and took on the task with joy.
On February 28, 2009, Walt married Glenda Middleton Shaw from Wichita Falls and cherished her dearly for the following 15 years.
Survivors include: Walt’s beloved wife, Glenda Splinter, son Travis Splinter and wife Debbie, daughter Angela Coen and husband David, son Don Bowers and Tonya Herrick, daughter Theresa Finigan and wife Ginger, son Brent Shaw and wife Connie, and daughter Kristie Hopkins and husband Craig. Surviving siblings are Ed Splinter and wife Vickie, Nancy Rosas and husband Jonas, and Diane Seal, as well as many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, TX 76310 or Trinity Lutheran Church, 3505 Kemp Blvd, Wichita Falls, TX 76308.
