Violet “Vi” Wisdom, 91, of Wichita Falls died Friday, February 18, 2011 at her residence. Services have been scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 28, 2011 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
Vi was born February 23, 1919 in Kingston, OK to Walter and Flora Saunders Rogers. She married Wiley W. Wisdom January 8, 1938 in Henrietta, TX and together they raised three children. She was the wife of a career military man who was a POW with the Lost Battalion in Java during WWII. Due to his military career their family lived in various and fascinating places. She worked at her parents’ restaurant during the war then had a variety of jobs during her life. She worked at a theater, and was an airline attendant, and a bookkeeper for different businesses, as well as a cosmetologist instructor. She also did a variety of volunteer work including at Grace Nursing Home while her husband was living there. Vi also was a member of the DAV Auxiliary and Lamar Baptist Church. Her children remember her as a loving and caring person who always put others before herself.
Mrs. Wisdom is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Wiley W. Wisdom in 1997; grandson, Christopher Cox in 1979; three sisters; and three brothers.
Survivors include her children and sons-in-law, Sue and Lew Polsgrove of Bloomington, IN, Wiley Wisdom, Rebecca and Cam Beasley all of Wichita Falls; sister, Betty Jo Maynard of St. Joseph, MO; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
