Susan Diane Hancock, 58, a lifelong resident of Wichita Falls, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at United Regional Hospital of Wichita Falls. A Memorial Service is pending and will be subsequently announced under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
Diane was born September 30, 1955 to Mary Sue (Cunningham) and Charles Fuhs Jr. She married Kendal Hancock and together they raised two children. Diane obtained her bachelor degree in education from Midwestern State University while working at the MSU print shop. She taught first grade at Alamo Elementary School from 1978 through this past month. She was especially proud to be lifelong friends with many past and present teachers at Alamo who became her extended family. She was a long-time member of the Wichita Falls Ballet Theater starring in many local productions. She loved teaching, ballet, volunteering at local pet adoptions, gardening, cooking and spending time on her brother’s ranch in south Texas.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include brother Chuck Fuhs and spouse Chris Hlavinka of Houston; daughter, Shelley Hancock and her partner Josh Wells of Swansboro, North Carolina; son Benjamin Hancock, wife Rachel and soon-to-be born granddaughter Evelyn of Sugarland, Texas, and her beloved dogs, Tucker and Marley. The family honors the many friends and fellow Alamo School teachers who provided so much support and inspiration in her final days braving cancer, and for whom she was honored in a celebration of life prior to her untimely passing.
