Ruth Ellen Nelson

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at River Assembly of God Church, 1110 S. Preston St., Burkburnett, Texas officiated by Pastor Billy Pate and Rev. M.F. Hankins. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories at Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7:00 until 8:00 in the evening on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.

Ruth was born on November 25, 1923 in Snyder, Texas to Thomas and Martha O’Kelley. She met and married Wayne Nelson on March 1, 1943, in Fredrick, Oklahoma, then later made their home in Midland, Texas. In 1968 they moved to Burkburnett, Texas. Ruth is a member of River Assembly of God Church in Burkburnett and for the last 2 years she was a resident of Texhoma Christian Care Center.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Wayne Nelson, son, Tommy Nelson and her brothers, William O’Kelley and Otis O’Kelley.

She is survived by 4 daughters, Shirley Bragg of Burkburnett, Sue and husband Ken Szelc of Wichita Falls, Barbara and husband Russell Conroy of Wichita Falls, Naomi and husband Joe Bilyeu of Burkburnett, daughter-in-law, Dorothy Nelson of Lubbock, 11 grandchildren, Wendy and husband Jimmy Duke, Kenneth and wife Karen Bragg, Kimberly and husband Michael Lake, JaNa and husband Tim White, Cheryl and husband Pat Stevens, Rae Jean and husband Shawn Willis, Michelle and husband Jerry Hughes, Angela and husband Kenneth McCutcheon, Sean and wife Toni Conroy, Chad and wife Tammy Szelc, Brittney and husband Ryan Ellett, her 33 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren who lovingly call her G.G. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Ruby Brown, Dortha Wilson and Jirdean Carta, all of Winnsboro, Texas
