His funeral will be held 11 AM on Thursday December 22, 2022 at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, TX. Visitation will be at 10AM at the funeral home before the service. Burial will follow the service at Alvord Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Vaughan

Ray was born on October 17, 1925 on the family farm along Bois D'Arc Creek in Fannin County, Texas to Moultrie Oliver Hyde and Nellie Groves Hyde. He spent the early years of his life there, attending schools in Grove Hill and Leonard. Upon graduation from Leonard High School in 1943, Ray enlisted in the United States Navy and underwent Basic Training at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station. He served in the Navy Communications Division.
When World War I ended, Ray was discharged from the Navy and later served as a tank commander in the Texas National Guard. He attended Decatur Baptist College, where he was co-captain of the football team and participated in basketball and track.
Ray and Jo Evelyn Hubbard met in Decatur and were married there in 1948 at First Baptist Church. They were married for 53 years and had two sons, Ray Hubbard Hyde and William Michael Hyde. The family were lifelong Baptists, and at the time of his death Ray was a member of Lamar Baptist Church.
During his career in the oil industry, Ray worked for Mobil Oil Corporation as a production supervisor. He held positions in Burkburnett, Albany, Gainesville, Odessa, and Electra. After his retirement from Mobil, he continued to work for a number of years as a consultant to north Texas oil producers.
Ray took up the game of golf in 1972. He loved the challenge of the game and particularly enjoyed the hours he spent on the course with friends. He participated in Senior Olympics and won medals on local, state, and national levels.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Jo Evelyn Hubbard Hyde and son William Michael Hyde, his parents, Moultrie and Nellie Hyde, and siblings Grace Evelyn Hyde Boudreau and George Robert Hyde.
He is survived by his son Dr. Ray Hubbard Hyde and wife Sharon, his grandchildren Christina Ann Schlette and husband Scott, Philip Ray Hyde and wife Valerie, and Cory Snow Hyde. He is also survived by his great grandchildren Caroline Elizabeth Hyde and Nathan Wheeler, and his niece Nena Luttrull.
