Graveside Service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 4, 2013 in the Garden of Serenity at Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 in the afternoon on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
Dottie D. Galyean was born Dottie Dee Dickerson in Winnfield, Louisiana, on March 9, 1924. She was the only child of Edith and J.G. Dickerson. Dottie always had a love for learning and she graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana at the age of 20 with a degree in Education.
In 1946 Dottie married Kenneth Galyean and together they raised 6 children as they lived in Canada, Washington, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. In 1962 they moved to Wichita Falls, Texas.
Dottie was a life-long educator and touched countless lives as she taught a total 45 years; 27 of those in Wichita Falls ISD from which she retired in 1989. She taught at Hirschi Jr. High, McNiel Jr. High and primarily at Fowler Elementary. She particularly enjoyed reminiscing about her days and students at Fowler.
During her long life in Wichita Falls, Dottie was an involved member of Fairway and Faith Baptist Churches where she enjoyed singing in the choirs. She was also an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for many years. After retiring Dottie stayed busy traveling and enjoying the various activities offered by the Senior Group at Faith Baptist Church and AARP. She also taught Adult Literacy and volunteered at various schools including Alamo Elementary.
Dottie is survived by her children and their spouses: Mickey and Barbara Galyean, Iowa Park; Sue Schabram, Wichita Falls; Kay Hitt, Wichita Falls; Bob Galyean, Arlington, Tx; David Galyean, Birmingham, AL and Pat and Chris Jones, Jakarta, Indonesia. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jim and Cristina Galyean, China Spring, Tx; Trisha Schabram, Christopher Hitt and Michael Hitt of Wichita Falls and Blake Jones of College Station. Her great grandchildren are Ella and Nolan Galyean; Emily Bria of Wichita Falls and Christian and Allison Hitt.
Dottie will be remembered for her shining smile, positive attitude and wit. She leaves a legacy of sunshine through her children, grandchildren, great grand children and the many, many students she taught. We love you so much and will miss you always. That smile will be with us forever.
