Dorothy was born March 15, 1932 in Sweet Springs, Missouri to Leonard Carter and Fannie (Reynolds) Carter.
She grew up in Denison, TX and graduated from Denison High School in 1949. While in school, she was a majorette her junior year and drum majorette her senior year.
After graduating she attended TSCW in Denton. In the summer of 1950, she was asked to represent K. Wolens Department Store in a Bathing Beauty Contest for the opening of Lake Texoma. She took first place. She met Bill Drake at school in the fall of 1949. They married February 2, 1951.
Dorothy and Bill had three children, Curtis Drake and wife Eileen, Derek Drake and wife Kathy, and Gayla Oliver and husband Mike. She had 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
When Dorothy and Bill’s children were in school, she went back to college at Midwestern to finish her degree. She graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She then taught school at Ben Franklin from 1970-1982.
She was involved in The Woman’s Forum, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, The Lions Club, Daughters of the Nile, through Shriners, and she was a member of the University United Methodist Church since 1956.
She loved to visit with friends and work in her yard. She also loved traveling in their motor home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Bill Drake.
Visitation will be Sunday January 8, 2023 from 5-6 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 2 PM Monday January 9, 2023 at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home Chapel.
