Charles LeRoy McMillan

Charles was born on November 7, 1929 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Ralph (Si) and Pearl (Corwin) McMillan.

He joined the military in 1950 and it was while stationed in Ramstein, Germany the he met and married his loving wife of over 66 years, Klara Krempl. Klara was truly the love of his life and he would often tell her “I love you, Klara….you’re the best”.

Charles was an aircraft mechanic most of his military career and was also an instructor at Sheppard AFB. His tours of duty included Germany, England, Thailand, KI Sawyer AFB, Michigan, Amarillo AFB, TX, Offutt AFB, Nebraska and Webb AFB, TX. He retired with honors from the Air Force in 1973 as a Master Sergeant. He also worked in immigration and later as an instructor for Civil Service.

Charles graduated from Midwestern State University with a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree in May of 1981.

Charles had a great love for his country and he served it honorably. Most of his career was spent around airplanes and even in his later years when his hearing was poor, he could still hear when one of the planes from Sheppard would fly over.

He loved his family and spending time with them, especially traveling with them. He loved going to the lake, being in a boat and fishing. He and Klara traveled all over the country and it was their goal to travel to every state in the union and they met that goal.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Pearl McMillan, his granddaughter Shannen Gibson and grandson Jerime Conover.

He is survived by his loving wife Klara, his children Charles H. McMillan and wife Suzy of Azle, TX, his daughter Sonia McMillan of Wichita Falls and son Ralph A. McMillan and wife Tena of Burleson, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristy Gregory and husband Donnie, Jason McMillan, Brian McMillan, MD, Amanda Myers and husband Randle and Brandy Mazza and husband Nathan. Great grandchildren are Korbin, Beckett and Teigan Gregory, Hannah and John Gibson, Jessica Cain, Knox Myers, Colt Myers, Colette McMillan, Max Mazza and Marlee Mazza. He is survived by one great, great grandchild, Dason Cain. He is also survived by his brother Larry McMillan and wife Kay of Lyons, KS and nephews Jeff McMillan and David McMillan.

There will be a visitation on Friday, October 13th at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home at 7:00pm. A graveside burial with full military honors will be held on Saturday, October 14th at Crestview Memorial Park at 10:00am. The Reverend Lydia Pellikan will officiate.

The family would like to thank Rolling Meadows Home Health and Hospice for all the kind and loving care they gave to Mr. McMillan. Donations can be made, in lieu of flowers, to Hospice and to the Rolling Meadows Good Samaritan Fund.
